Bikram yoga, practised at 38° C., is an experience for ambitious yogis. At the Vienna studio on the fifth floor of the recently opened “Lugner Kino City,” there are 100 square meters of practice space with wall mirrors and functional accessories.
Bikram yoga consists of a series of 24 Hatha-Yoga exercises, a combination of “Asanas” (sitting postures) and “Pranayamas,” (breath control exercises), which follow each other in sequence, each performed twice. The high temperature in the room increases the rate of metabolism, and stimulates circulation and detoxification. It also effectively strengthens and stretches the muscles. This form of yoga was developed by the Indian teacher Bikram Choudhury (62), founder of several Bikram centers worldwide. All the instructors at the Vienna center were personally trained by Bikram.
