Tiny, but extra fine – Hoss an der Oper in Cologne scores points with its homemade creations. Its slogan is “The Restaurant for Eating at Home.”
Founded in 1900, this traditional Cologne firm has store space of a mere 80 square meters. Petra Hoss, the fourth generation family member to own it, emphasizes quality rather than quantity. The kitchen produces a weekly menu of freshly prepared meals, from traditional specialties to original creations. There is no space for lunch tables, but customers buy meals as deep-frozen take-aways. Items for sale are not mass-produced but come from small-scale producers in France and Italy, and from Hoss’s kitchen: Sizilian pasta and pasta sauces, seasonal chutneys, jams and gelees, and exclusive oils.
