The "Old Masters" are to be seen at every turn in Dresden's Zwinger palace, however, come evening the attention shifts and the museum's cafe of transforms itself into one of Florence on the Elbe's most talked about restaurants.
The Alte Meister Cafe-Restaurant is named after the picture gallery of the same name and is located directly in the heart of the museum. During the day the museum's visitors populate Saxony's tourist hot spot in Dresden's old town and enjoy refreshment in the Cafe, located in artist Albert Braun's former studio. During the evening the space is transformed into an exclusive restaurant overlooking the Theaterplatz. The amazing view over the Semper Oper offers an elite backdrop, which attracts the Opera crowd too. "Dining between Rubens and Rosini? why not!" is the motto. As for the food, a creative, international cuisine is on the menu with a focus on German, French and Mediterranean specialities. To start a choice of "parrotfish poached in vodka and pomegranate" or a "lobster consommée" is offered. For the main course "mullet marinaded in garlic" is recommendable and for dessert it’s hard to top the "coconut parfait with passion fruit and pina colada". Only a glass door separates the guest from masterpieces of the visual arts- the creations from the museums kitchen could easily be described as the culinary equivalent.
