Built in the late 19th century, the rustic wood and stone building that the French Laundry calls home has a long history behind it. The structure once served as a saloon, a bordello, and to no surprise, an actual French laundry.
Now the days of bordellos are long gone, and the French Laundry refers only to one of the best restaurants in the world. There is no food á la carte, as star chef Thomas Keller serves an ever-changing personally prepared 9-course menu. The renowned wine list offers a handful of less expensive alternatives, but most cost well over 60 Euro.
