The founder of this festival, himself a baritone, knows the critical importance of acoustics for good opera. Therefore, since 1997, the Opera Festival Gut Immling has taken place inside a horse-racing dome. On account of the outstanding acoustics, the productions have taken place inside the dome until today.
Ludwig Baumann, the founder, is constantly in search of new talent and new music for his festival. For the only opera performed here is newly composed material, or newly arranged productions of the classics by Mozart, Puccini, and Verdi. The staple orchestra at Gut Immling is the Munich Symphony Orchestra, which hasn’t a festival since its inauguration in 1997. A total of 200 singers fit onto the stage, which has the capacity to produce absolutely stunning acoustic power and beauty. The festival itself is rather multifaceted. Aside from the opera proper, there are also introductory workshops for adults and children’s operas, accompanied by exhibitions of other arts such as painting, sculpture, and of course the art of fine dining.
