The internet never ceases to amaze. Thanks to a new Mercedes Facebook app, everyone can now enjoy a luxury normally afforded only to collectors: your own private museum.

It's not that long ago that luxury brands thought of the internet as a kind of dingy corner that it was best not to look at, and certainly not the kind of place where one would like to be seen, lest one tarnish one's image. Since then of course, everything has changed, and many of the top luxury names are considered top online innovators.
With over 5 million fans, Mercedes-Benz counts as one of the best loved names on Facebook (the top brand, Coca-Cola, has over 36 million fans), and that's not even including smaller sub-division sites such as the Mercedes Museum. The Mercedes Museum page has grown in popularity to around 30,000 fans, and now has its own new application: My Mercedes Museum. The app lets users choose historical automobiles from the Stuttgart museum and create their own collection, complete with a rich wealth of heritage information.
With already more than a hundred new "curators" working on their own private exhibitions, some trends are beginning to emerge with regards to the most popular Mercedes models. Among them is the Uhlenhaut coupe, a 300 SLR from 1955. Our personal favorite is the original 300 SL, the prize winner at the 1952 Carrera Panamerica: this model features a windshield-behind-bars that was introduced after one was destroyed during a race by a low-flying vulture.
