From Mansions to Manors – the luxury Houses of Germany

Eberstein Castle, Baden Wittenberg

Markgraf Friedrich of Baden commissioned Friedrich Weinbrenner to rebuild the crumbling Eberstein Castle from 1803 to 1804. The original structure, dating from the 13th century, was reconstructed as a personal estate – a place to call home, with all the atmosphere and accoutrements of a castle.
Although this revamp suffered some damage due to repeated plundering during an 1849 revolution, the castle still served as an acceptable summer home for the Baden family in the 19th and 20th centuries. The castle received yet another makeover in 2000, when it was purchased by Gerd Overlack, who transformed Eberstein Castle into an elegant hotel, complete with gourmet restaurant and vineyard. The enchanting establishment offers fourteen exclusively designed and furnished rooms, four of which include a luxurious steam room.
