Ippenburg Castle, Lower Saxony

Dating from the 18th century, the picturesque Ippenburg Castle is hidden away behind tall Chestnut Trees, occupying a wooded area that serves as the perfect fairytale location for this neogothic castle.

A possession of the Busche-Ippenburg family for over 600 years, the castle is surrounded by immense parks and fields spanning 300 hectares, and even more hectares of wooded land. The castle may be old but this is no ancient ruin, as one look at the blooming palace gardens proves: the old oak trees are complimented by fresh new foliage, planted by renowned British garden-designer Christopher Bradley-Hole. The yearly Ippenburger Castle and Garden Festival, established in 1998 by Viktoria Freifrau of the Busche family, is sure to appeal to horticulture lovers.
