Investing in Wine

‘The older the better’ might be a handy rule of thumb when choosing a bottle of wine but much depends on the vintage, the quality of grape used and the way the bottle has been stored. Connoisseurs will know exactly what they’re looking for and indeed the best suppliers and vinters to get it but we have three delightful selections to start you off if you’re a little inexperienced in the wine trade. 1: Fine Bordeaux reds from the legendary Chateau Pétrus available at around €2800; 2: One of the world’s most famous vineyards is Château d'Yquem who specialise in white wines and are particular famous for their sweet wines. With its light gold colouring and silky composition, the 1982 vintage is an especial highlight at €795; 3: Fans of Italian reds might like to consider Solaia, a Toscana-produced wine which contains 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and is a snip at €128.

Laying down a few good bottles might not pay dividends in hard cash but your taste buds will certainly thank you for it in a few years time!
