Sharper and faster sums up the Gallardo. The model made its first appearance in 2003 and was an instant hit due in part to its snappy bodywork and high performance capabilities but also its suitability for everyday use. Several enthusiasts regard the Gallardo as an Audi in its most beautiful form – of course that is slightly facetious but nevertheless based in truth – after all, the Gallardo and the larger Murciélago have consistently borrowed from Audi technology. The Gallardo boasts a growling 5.0l V10 cylinder engine which can push out 520HP; in combination with the warp resistant Spaceframe construction and all-wheel drive, this nippy little vehicle has performance power more suited to the race track than the city street. The sprint from 0-100 km/h is a breath-taking 3.9 seconds while top speeds are around 315 km/h. For purists a super lightweight version, the Superleggera, is also available. Prices start from €162,000.
