The boat ride from the city of Manaus takes around two and a half hours and it feels as though the rainforest is swallowing the river. Suddenly you reach the lodge, which simply emerges out of the jungle on a river-bank.
Electricity is only available in the evenings and in the main buildings, candles and oil lamps are used. Cooking is with local produce. Very few mosquitoes are here as the acid content of the water in this region deters them.
