Copperhill Mountain Lodge – Ǻre, Sweden

After a 2-year renovation programme a fresh wind not only blows on the nearby piste but also throughout the recently refurbished Copperhill Mountain Lodge which reopened its doors in December 2008. American star architect Peter Bohlin was responsible for the new design and was careful to ensure that while the hotel was ultra-modern and suited to the discerning 21st Century traveller that it also fit in well with its surroundings. It was this attention to detail which ensured that the Copperhill Mountain Lodge promptly landed on the 170 Best Design Hotels in the World list. Standing on the summit of the Förberget on the eastern side of the Åreskutan mountains, at one time a copper-rich area, offers a breathtaking view of the snowy landscape around Åre. The hotel has its own ski lift and private helipad. The elegant spa complex here brings to mind traditional Lapp architecture and design. The hotel offers 112 rooms in total in addition to two bars and two restaurants.
