After a devastating fire, the owners decided to start again from scratch, resulting in one of the most beautiful castles being created.

Elmau Castle, located near the Alps, has always been a place of spirituality. Built in 1914, it soon became a popular refuge for intellectuals to pass the time discussing literature and philosophy. The interior design was traditional yet not kitsch, the food was healthy and tasted nice, things were going well until a fire in 2005, put a stop to all this. This is when the owner decided to radically revamp the hotel. In the following two years, a luxury hotel was erected on the cave grounds, complete with 5 star spa and exquisite kitchen. The Asian Aman resorts supposedly inspired the new look. Due to the sharply contrasting colors blended with golden tones, it doesn’t take too much effort to imagine you were in an Asian temple. In any case, Elmau Castle is more beautiful than ever. Finally, there is no need for worry, the traditional readings, music evenings and tango lessons are still on offer.
