Kingfisher Bay Resort & Village, Australia

On the largest sand island in the world you will find Australia’s leading eco-resort. While Kingfisher Bay Resort & Village was being built on Fraser Island, off the coast of the Australian state of Queensland, ten thousand plants were carefully removed. On completion of the project they were re-planted, together with 150,000 new seedlings.
Water comes from the island’s own springs and well trained rangers offer eco-tours of the local environment on this UNESCO protected island.
Entirely built mainly from wood, using environmentally sustainable building practices, the resulting architecture deliberately blends seamlessly into the landscape. The Resort uses 480,000 kilowatt hours less than similarly sized hotels.
