Regent's Garden, Paris

Napoleon III had this villa built for his personal physician just north of the Arc de Triomphe. Despite relatively merciful prices there's lots of space here: parking spaces at the front of the house and a charming garden in which guests can enjoy a croissant at the back. The more expensive rooms contain huge mirrors, stuccoed ceilings and sometimes even a fireplace. A friendly atmosphere is ensured thanks to antiques, pastel tones and materials bearing historical patterns. The corridors with their unconcealed piping can feel a little miserable. The icing on the cake: nearby on the bustling Rue Poncelet there is a wonderful cheese shop, Alléosse.
