This luxury resort village near Phuket was the first Aman resort, and still is number one for me. Remember to book the villas, though, and not the pavilions. The villas, with their private pools, are unbeatable when it comes to privacy. The founder, Adrian Zecha, who also comes from Singapore, is about 70 years old, but at heart he is a young visionary with a wonderful sense for luxury. Adrian aims to create an environment that is authentic, but never so over the top as to make guests feel uneasy. Architectonically, this is a “Gesamtkunstwerk”!
