At the base of La Romana, hidden on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, lies the luxury golf resort Casa de Campo, home of the legendary “Teeth of Dog”. Casa de Campo is lightyears from the masses of tourists that otherwise swarm around the Dominican Republic. It is a golf, tennis, and polo refuge surrounded by the natural beauty of the island. Casa de Campo’s three golf courses were designed by the one of the game’s greatest architects, Pete Dye. Of these, “The Teeth of the Dog” is by far the best, ranked 25th in Golf Digest’s list of the world’s best courses. Of this course, the typically humble Dye has been quoted as saying: “I designed eleven of the holes, God the other seven.” The course is smattered with palm trees and meanders in serpentine fashion up the Dominican Coast: For many players, this is nothing but paradise.
