Gloria Estefan’s music mirrors her own life path, which is one that many of the over one million Cuban-Americans now living in Florida may be familiar with. She came to the U.S. as a refugee at age two, grew up in poverty, and always dreamed of striking it rich.
Many years have passed since Estefan first landed in the States and the shy young girl known as Gloria Maria Milagrosa Fajardo is now the beloved Latina-diva Gloria Estefan, a world renowned singer who has sold over 70 million CD’s. She has come a long way from ‘Little Havana’, as Miami’s Cuban neighborhood is known, and now lives on Miami Beach’s “Star Island” with her husband, with whom she has also built a small business empire. In addition to five popular Cuban restaurants and the 43-room Cardozo Hotel, located on Miami’s swanky Ocean Drive, the couple most recently opened the five-star Costa d’Este, a luxurious 94-room palatial hotel located directly on the shores of Vero Beach and fully equipped with exquisite bathing spots, restaurants and spas. And since Miami is such a hot spot for weddings, the hotel offers special wedding arrangements with ceremonies on the shores of the Atlantic.
