She may miss her days slamming tennis balls on the courts but Steffi Graff has new interests to keep her busy these days – namely, her family, architecture and design. She even manages to combine all three as she has undertaken numerous building projects with husband Andre Agassi.
The two invested in a 300-bed hotel in Tamarack, Idaho and set to work designing the entire project themselves, from the architecture to interior decorations. “In this way we could be sure that the spirit of the Tamarack would be preserved,” explained Agassi, “a heavenly plot of land in the middle of a breath-taking landscape.” When the two former tennis-pros (who have 30 Grand Slam Titles between them!) first went to Tamarack in 2003 the place was little more than a few wooden houses scattered between the Payette River Mountains. The couple fell in love with the gorgeous natural surroundings and purchased a house in the area almost immediately. When they learned that an investor planned to build a new ski and golf resort in the nearby mountains, the couple invested 34.5 million Euro in the construction of an eight-storey apartment-style hotel in the resort’s center. The only five-star hotel in the area, it is now run by the Fairmount Hotel group and includes a variety of restaurants and bars, enormous spa, and 24-hour concierge service. Skiing, golf, water sports, biking, hiking, and climbing are all available – but tennis, oddly, is not.
