There is no doubt that Richard Branson had a picture perfect childhood. He grew up in a small village and spent most of his time outdoors, climbing trees, always active and on the go - keep discovering
Branson’s taste for adventure and love of nature stayed with him into adulthood. In 1978, he decided to indulge his inner child and bought Necker Island, off the British Virgin Isles, transforming it into a fantastical hideaway for himself, friends and VIP guests (such Kate Moss or Google-founder Larry Page, who got married here). Needless to say, the island guest list is very exclusive – usually a maximum of 28 guests stay on the island at one time, with 50 employees to take care of every guest’s needs. Drinks, food, and spa-treatments are all included. Of course, such luxury comes with a cost. One week on this thirty-hectare private refuge costs $46,000. There is a cheaper option available once per year. During these “Celebration Weeks” the island is rented out to various couples at a rate of $26,000 per couple. The price may be reduced but guests then have to share the island and its three pools with strangers – maybe not worth it after all.
