Wine snobs can breathe a sigh of relief because fair trade wines can now easily compete with traditionally produced vintages. The best of these wines at the moment come from South Africa and Chile.

At the bio business trade fair in 2006 three wines from the South African vineyard Stellar Organics were awarded with a gold and two silver medals. In 2007 during a blind taste test at the Vinopolis wine exposition in London a Chilean Carmenère was selected as the best red wine in the fair trade segment.
Around 15 different types of wine with the fair trade seal are available in Germany including Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which have been cultivated in a controlled ecological environment. Whereas the wines of Stellar Organics are easily found in supermarkets and wine retailers throughout Germany the Chilean wines are predominantly available in speciality shops.
