The most influential taste - and style-makers

Karim Rashid, product designer

“I want to change the world” – judging by that quote, it is clear that product designer Karim Rashid has some big plans.

Strong words – and the sort of words you expect to hear from some outspoken pop star rather than a product designer.
Still, in many ways Rashid already looks a bit like a pop star and he has already managed to change the world somewhat, in his own way. The designer, who always wears white, has already developed around 2000 new objects.
His client list reads like a dictionary of the best brands – from A for Alessi to G for Giorgio Armani and P for Prada to Z for Zerodisegno.
His products have been sold by the million and his poppy, organic forms have changed the aesthetic of mainstream product design forever.
In order to keep changing the world even more, the Egyptian-born, Canada-raised style fanatic is taking on other design disciplines too, from architecture to interior design. For example his work at the Seramis Hotel in Athens won the Sleep05 European Hotel Design Award.
All of which is why the world keeps waiting with baited breath for Rashid’s next project.
