There are few names in the field of product design that are as well known as Philippe Starck’s, and particularly so well known as to have become a household name

Anyone who has ever been able to read a newspaper has heard of this designer. His career started to heat up after he was asked to decorate the private rooms of then-French President, François Mitterrand.
But what was making him even better known was his desire to develop designer products that were not necessarily ridiculous designer extravagances. Starck’s products are made for every situation and any budget. His products include everything from motorcycles to toothbrushes to couches. He has worked on plans for breath taking hipster hotels in New York but he also put together a building plan for a house one could buy in a mail-order catalogue, for less than 1000 Euros.
In fact, the vogue for more baroque forms and spirals can probably be traced back to Starck’s own subtle work with restrained curves and curly shapes.
