The most influential taste - and style-makers

Tom Ford, fashion designer

Even though Tom Ford is now working under his own name, he is still most often mentioned in combination with the Italian fashion brand, Gucci.

Most likely this is because the American designer, who started work at Gucci in 1995 when the label was under financial pressure and considered irrelevant in many ways, had incredible success there.
He modernized all aspects of the brand and brought glamour back to the well known name by doing such things as arranging for star photographer, Mario Testino, to put together a campaign for Gucci. And presto! Suddenly Gucci no longer stood for grim financial news; rather, it was all about luxury and glamour.
During the ten years that Ford was creative director at Gucci the sales there went from a paltry 230 million US dollars in 1994 to an incredible three billion in 2003.
Then in April 2005, some time after parting from Gucci, Ford launched his own menswear label. Offerings from his new brand include glasses, cosmetics, menswear, shoes and accessories.
