Giraffes in the way
If you're thinking about visiting the Mokuti Lodge in North Nambia with your private Cessna, it's probably best to plan your arrival for late evening. The runway is located 3650 feet above sea level, and the air resistance in the heat of the day at this height is low enough that a small Cessna or Piper might not be able to stop by the end of the 2200 meter runway.
The lodge at the edge of a national park
One of Africa's largest wildlife collections is located a mere 450 kilometers from the capital city of Windhoek. Etosha National Park is not just home to the Big Five however. In Africa, the Park is often referred to simply as the the Etosha "Pan" , because the land of this area sinks slightly towards the center. During the rainy season, when this center fills up with water, an indescribable display of nature's variety takes place here. Even flamingos can be seen in the midst of what is normally a dry area. And here, right on the edge of Etosha National Park, is found one of the world's most luxurious hotels: the Kempinski Mokuti Lodge. All rooms are located in small straw-roofed huts, bringing European luxury together with authentic African charm. On your way through the glorious garden to your room, you may even find a bontebok or a giraffe standing in your way.
Carpaccio of springbok and Marula Parfait
Carpaccio of springbok with balsamic fig sauce comes highly, highly recommended. Or perhaps a zebra steak in creamy feta merlot sauce and a Marula Parfait for desert with a matching South African Wine? African decor, special touches taken from the surrounding bushland and live African music create an extra special ambiance. From the terrace, you have a breathtaking view of the garden and the animals that pasture there on the manicured grass, and anyone who's made it this far certainly shouldn't miss out on the chance to have a special dinner in the middle of the African bushland.
Etosha means "Big White Place"
Motuki Lodge arranges safari excursions into the unique wilderness of the surrounding area. It's one of the largest savannas and wildlife preservation areas in all of Africa. Etosha translated means "Big White Place". The park was named for the huge dried out mineral basin that makes up a quarter of its total area. 114 different times of mammals: zebras, springboks, elks, oryxes, kudu antelopes, giraffes, and of course the "Big Five"-lions, leopards, elephants, and black and white rhinos populate the area. The rich variety of animal wildlife promises impressive animal watching. With over 340 recorded species, Etosha is also a widely recognized paradise for birdwatchers.
